On November 29, 2022, our lives were forever changed when my husband of 29 years, Al, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. From that moment on, he faced every challenge with incredible strength and unwavering determination.
Over the course of this journey, Al endured 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 15 rounds of radiation, and a major Whipple surgery followed by a 30-day hospital stay filled with complications. Nearly a year later to the day, we learned that a blood clot had developed in his portal vein, blocking blood flow to his liver. On August 30, 2024, Al underwent a high-risk procedure to remove the clot and insert a stent. What followed were months of internal bleeding, a bloodstream infection, and ultimately osteomyelitis, which led to the collapse of four discs in his neck and major spinal surgery on October 25.
Through it all, Al remained resilient. He fought with courage, grace, and a quiet strength that inspired everyone around him.
On Tuesday, April 22nd, heaven received a true warrior as Al passed away peacefully. Though our hearts are broken, we remain grateful for every moment shared, every lesson learned, and every bit of light he brought into this world.
We will continue to honor Al’s legacy by supporting others on their journey, just as we were supported on ours.
