My Updates

100k? Yeah mate completed it.

Tuesday 21st May
It's done, it's finished, I'm now an ex-runner. It was great whilst it lasted but now I can enter hibernation at least for the next 2 months before I think about physical exercise again. I would like to thank each and every person who has donated to me and especially my wife for probably being the only person who reads these posts. Bit now time for the stats... Distance: 101.19 km Time running: 11hr 8m Steps: 187,983 (for the whole week not just running)

Is this even running anymore?

Tuesday 21st May
So here we are day 8. The last day.  After the weekend where I lost valuable trackable kilometers i started the week on the back foot and needed to up my numbers.

So Monday evening i completed 8.5km and set this morning to again try and get as much of a cushion as possible so that this evening's final run will be shorter and dare i say it..... enjoyable?

However my legs didn't really get the message, they are working....just. And it seems to be pure autopilot at this point. My speed is slow and to be honest i'm not really sure i can call it running at this point. Its more like one really long drawn out stumble before i crash out at home.

Song pick from today's run that kept me going was The Beat with Tears of a Clown.

So as of right now i have 4.89 kilometers to go. I've iced my legs, massaged them and even tried horse-whispering techniques in order to will them to get back out there for one last go. I'm sure they will, they have to... right?

Sunday Muddy Sunday

Monday 20th May
In a fit of poor organising on my behalf, i had arranged for my football team to complete a muddy obstacle course this week to celebrate coming second in our league and gaining promotion. (Corringham Athletic are massive everywhere they go!), unfortunately this meant that i also had to chaperone them around the course.  And although the distance wasn't very far, the physical effort required to complete each obstacle was well at this stage of the challenge almost unbearable. Still i couldn't let a load of pesky 12 and 13 year old kids out do me so attack with gusto each wall, tunnel, monkey bar and swing is what i did. Although quite a lot of falling to my knees was required as well, especially when i realised that my watch decided to pause its self half way round and so only 1.3 km was fully logged. Doh!

'Saturday Kids Live In Council Houses

Monday 20th May
Wear V-necked shirts and baggy trousers."

As said by Paul Weller/The Jam. Well this saturday, my football team kids joined me/pushed me to complete 15 laps of our training field.

15 boys x 6.5 km = 97.5km that all counts right.....RIGHT!?

Top of the Pops

Friday 17th May
Hey scott, what gets you going when you are out running?
Well scott that's a great question, let me tell you,  i like to listen to a wide range of different music but every now and again there will be something that crops up that gives me that extra boost when i need it. Here are my top three songs from this week so far.

1 - Baby Lasagna - Rim tim tagi dim
This years Eurovision entry from croatia has proven to be a regular pick me up, a combination of guitars and drums help those feet move a little quicker. Quite a lot quicker actually.

2 - Ezra Collective - Ajala
The UK jazz influence band won the mercury music prize in 2023. This song has got the perfect flow to keep the strides going.

3 - Bez Laidley - Damn that Scott
A bit of an outside choice, but my fellow Challenger Bez (https://www.emfdistancechallenge.org/fundraisers/bezlaidley/5th-annual-distance-challenge-km) originally set himself a target of 80km, and with a completely unearned cocky attitude i challenged him to up it to 100 which he unduly obliged. A few days in and i can hear him a clear as day in his dulcet brummie tones bemoaning my very existence.

Photo for the day. This ally used to be known as smoker's ally back when i was in school, i now know it to be useless pollen-filled ally of eye death. Note to self, don't take this route again.

One Third Done

Thursday 16th May
Project Management 101. Do not underestimate a task. A solid rule i think we can all agree, however not one that i have taken on board.

We are now on day three and i have completed 5 of my 15 runs, and well this is going to be hard. Once i'm out running all isn't too back, but for the daytime, ive now started sounding like a theremin, with all kinds of different pitched oohs and aaahhhs escaping from my body.

My hook or crook i will make the distance but the likelihood of me finishing with a crawl is looking increasingly likely.

Day 1 - PM 6.27km
Day 2 - AM - 6.31km
Day 2 - PM - 6.30km
Day 3 - AM - 6.42km

first 6k done!

Tuesday 14th May

Day 1 - AM

Tuesday 14th May
Well here we are a month and a bit after my first test run and  a few recalculations, i've worked out my best opportunity to complete this is by doing two 6.25km runs each day one in the am and one in the pm. Have i managed to do this method in training at all, no. Is it a good idea, probably not, am i going to give it a bloody good go anyay, absolutely!

So Day 1 morning session and i woke up to the delightful sound of pouring rain. Yipee. Still, quick warm up, plenty of stretches and off i go. Day 1 am done. 6.25km in the bank and only 15 more runs to do!

Getting Back on the .... Path

Monday 8th Apr
For reasons that i can't quite explain, when signing up to this challenge i decided to set a target of running 100km. It sounded like a nice round figure and i just wanted to get signed up before i had too much time to think about it.  Then i did have time to think about it and i realised that would mean running around 10km per day.

I have previously run 10k races so the distance isn't the worry here, more that i would have to do it day after day when i haven't done any sort of running like that in a good 4-5 years. So here i am a bit older, a bit rounder and definitely not any mature-er trying to work out how big of a mistake a target of 100km actually is.

Test result 1 - 5km run, time 34:11. A good start but will i be able to run again tomorrow. i'm not so optimistic.
