One is of me and my mom at the Jersey Shore when I was about two years old. The other is me now, on that same shoreline, with my girls.

My mom loved the Jersey Shore. And now, I get to raise my daughters here. That connection is not lost on me.

What is missing is time.

Time that my mom did not get, as she passed away from colon cancer in 2002. Time that so many families impacted by cancer are still fighting for.

That is why this year’s Distance Challenge feels especially meaningful.

Through my work at Expect Miracles Foundation, where I lead the EMF Distance Challenge, I see firsthand how this community is driving real progress. Together, we are funding critical research that is going to have a long-term impact and financial assistance that is helping cancer survivors now.

But there is still more to be done.

We need to continue improving the outcomes of a cancer diagnosis so that more moms get more summers. More walks on the beach. More memories with their children.

More time together at the Jersey Shore.

I am running 10 more miles than last year, and I will be running my miles on the boardwalks of the Jersey Shore, a place I am so grateful to call home, and I will be thinking of my mom with every step.

Every dollar raised brings us closer to a future where more families get to enjoy the Jersey Shore together.
