Progress - Day 7 of 8

Monday 20th May
It's early Monday 5/20 and I'm recovering from 116 miles yesterday and a 170 mile weekend. The weather is not rideable this morning and I'm glad to have the time off the bike. There's a weather window this afternoon and tomorrow morning and, body willing, I may be able to top off the challenge with another 40 or so. I'm currently 4th on the leaderboard with #5 only a couple miles back. Fifth place seems the most likely outcome. Not bad for a 60 year old gravel biker. 

My riding philosophy

Monday 20th May
Riding effectively boils down to one simple concept. Efficient conversion of energy into miles. Converting food and water into kinetic energy and maximizing forward efficiency through steady, balanced and even execution. No wobble or extra movements, and minimal unnecessary braking. 

What do I ride?

Monday 20th May
Hi All. All of my miles have been ridden on a Minnesota built Otso Waheela gravel bike. It's a relatively heavy rig with wide 45mm gravel tires. Gravel miles have been few, but the more comfortable geometry and fatter tires are kinder to an old body like mine over rough roads. It's also a perfectly balanced and finely tuned bike that minimizes rolling and mechanical resistance. It's also like another body appendage at this point.

I'm exceeding my expectations and have 260 miles under my belt as of Saturday morning 5/18. Currently fifth place overall nationwide. Still fighting to move up. Your donations will help keep me inspired.
