This year marks 23 years since my mom, Anne, passed away from colon cancer. For those who never had a chance to meet my mom I've added a photo below. It also marks 12 years since I started at Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer. It hit me recently that for over half of the time since losing my mom, I’ve been dedicating my work to fighting the disease that took so much from me.And now, my daughter Lydia—who’s been growing up without her Grandma Anne for four of those years—is asking questions. I love telling her how amazing my mom was, how great of a grandma she would have been, and how much we all miss her. But I also wish I didn’t have to explain cancer to her in the first place.
I continue fundraising through Expect Miracles Foundation year after year - because there is hope. And because of YOU, real progress is happening.
In the past 12 years through Expect Miracles Foundation’s support of cancer research and thanks to the generosity of people like YOU:
- Cancer is being detected earlier.
- Breakthroughs like a liquid biopsy—a quick, non-invasive blood test—are revolutionizing cancer diagnoses.
- New drug therapies are giving patients more time.
- And people like my mom, when faced with metastatic cancer, have more options than ever before.
So, I’m asking again: please consider donating to this year’s Distance Challenge—so more little girls get to meet their grandmas. I will be running 26.2 miles in memory of my Mom! Any donation would be greatly appreciated:
